Tom Gilzean MBE has been laid to rest. The archbishop described him as an ornament of the city. A lone piper Hector played Wings, the march of The Corps of Royal Engineers with whom Tom had served followed by Highland Cathedral leading the standard bearers to the front of the Cathedral past Tom’s tartan coffin where they parted and stood guard during the service. The coffin was removed from the cathedral to the strains of Amazing Grace.

We heard Hecor play at the Army Navy Rugby at Twickenham and knew we wanted him for our wedding in Rhodes. Hector wore full Highland uniform in 29 degree blazing heat. Hector composed my Wedding March, piped me down the aisle and gave a framed copy of my wedding March, as a beautiful surprise. His music and uniforms were magnificent over the entire 4 days. We also booked Hector for our 2nd reception in Manchester. Hector and his piping were 100 out of 10. All our guests kept talking about was how brilliant our piper. Hector extra touches just made our Wedding.

We got married in Rhodes in blazing 30 heat. We heard and saw Hector play at the Army Navy rugby match at Twickenham and new he was the piper for us. I am a solo piper, so I wanted the very best piper for my mother’s funeral. Hector elegantly slow marched the hearse to the chapel. His turn out was immaculate, his playing and pipes were perfection.
